Frequently Asked Questions: 1. How do I measure for the correct size Pole-Wrap? You will need to know the circumference of your basement pole. Wrap a tape measure or string around your pole and take a measurement in inches. Use this circumference measurement and divide by 3.14 to determine the approximate diameter of your pole (Example: 9.5 In. / 3.14 = 3.0 In. diameter pole). You can also use the cross reference chart found on the label of any Pole-Wrap and Cap & Base package. 2. How are the Cap & Base installed? The Cap & Base are optional and sold separately. They come in halves that are glued together around the pole with hot glue or construction adhesive. The Base is made up of two layers. The Cap is simply the top layer of the Base inverted. 3. Should I install Pole-Wrap before or after carpet is laid? We recommend that you first install Pole-Wrap and the ceiling Cap. Then have the carpet laid and glue the Base right on top of the carpet using construction adhesive or hot glue. 4. What if I have a high ceiling basement? You can now purchase an add-on Pole-Wrap Extension for basements with 8 to 12 foot ceilings. The Pole-Wrap Extension is currently available through The Home Depot as a special order. The Extension is typically installed with our Drink Shelf that hides the joining seam. 5. Where can I buy the Pole-Wrap Drink Shelf and Extension? These items are currently available through select retailers. Please visit our "Retail Outlets" to find a retailer that is convenient for you. 6. Is Pole-Wrap available in other wood species? Pole-Wrap® is available in premium unfinished red oak, light maple, cherry and MDF for easy paint finishing. See our "Retail Outlets" page for availability. 7. Is Pole-Wrap prefinished? Pole-Wrap comes as unfinished natural wood. It requires only two coats of polyurethane, but can also be stained or painted to match your decor exactly. 8. Can Pole-Wrap be used to cover a jack post (adjustable basement support)? Yes, Akron Products (www.akronproducts.com) sells a Mono Post available at Lowe's that is easy to wrap and fits our 3" Cap & Base set. Mono Post has no pins. Otherwise, you may need to surround the jack post with a cylinder to cover the pin and provide a uniform diameter. PVC or a cardboard carpet spindle work well here. Simply cut in half lengthwise on a table saw and glue together around the pole. Drill a couple 1/4 In. holes and fill the inside with an expandable foam like "Stuff" to secure. You can then apply Pole-Wrap as you normally would. 9. Can I use Pole-Wrap to cover square posts? Yes, most posts are standard 4x4 and we recommend our 16x96 inch size for single post projects. Our 4x8 foot sheet is more economical for more than two posts. Simply cut the length and width to fit and then install with construction adhesive. Although we do not have a Cap & Base set available for square posts, your local lumber yard usually has a wide variety of crown and base moldings that can easily be cut with a miter saw to make the trim. 10. Can I use Pole-Wrap for outdoor applications? Pole-Wrap is a real wood product and can be used for exterior applications if it is primed and sealed appropriately. Do so as you would any wood surface requiring weather protection. 11. Where can I buy Pole-Wrap? Visit our "Retail Outlets" page for a complete listing of all stores and a link to help you find the exact location of a store near you. Some retailers offer online purchasing and shipping directly to your home or jobsite. 12. Is Pole-Wrap sold in Canada?
