Pole-Wrap Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What size Wrap do I need?

A:  You will need to know the circumference of your basement pole.  Wrap a tape measure or string around your pole to get this measurement.  Wraps are availabe in 12, 16 and 48 inch widths and must be cut to fit.  You can also use this circumference measurement to determine the diameter of your poleExample: 9.5 inch circumference measurement divided by 3.14 (Pi) equals about 3.02 and means you have a 3 In. diameter pole.  You can also use the cross reference chart found on the label of any Pole-Wrap product to determine the size and model that you need.

Q:  How are the Cap & Base installed?

A:  The Cap & Base are optional and sold separately.  They come in halves and are placed around the pole and installed against the ceiling and floor with construction adhesive.  The Base is made up of two layers.  The Cap is simply the top layer of the Base inverted.  After installation, there should be a 1/8 inch space between the Cap & Base and your wrapped pole.  This is an intentional design feature that is consistent with the theme of 1/8 inch spacing between the vertical panels of Pole-Wrap.

Q:  Should I install Pole-Wrap before or after carpet is laid?

A:  We recommend that you first install Pole-Wrap and the ceiling Cap.  Then have the carpet laid and glue the Base right on top of the carpet using construction adhesive.

Q:  What if I have a high ceiling basement?

A:  You can now purchase an add-on Pole-Wrap Extension for basements with 8 to 12 foot ceilings.  The Pole-Wrap Extension is currently available through The Home Depot or Lowe's online or as a special order item.  The Extension is typically installed with our Drink Shelf that hides the joining seam.

Q:  Where can I buy the Pole-Wrap Drink Shelf and Extension?

A:  These items are currently available through select retailers. Please visit our Retail Outlets page to find a retailer that is convenient for you.

Q:  Is Pole-Wrap available in other wood species?

A:  Pole-Wrap® is available in premium unfinished red oak, light maple, cherry and MDF for easy paint finishing.  See our Retail Outlets page for availability.

Q:  Is Pole-Wrap prefinished?

A:  Pole-Wrap comes as unfinished natural wood.  It requires only two coats of polyurethane, but can also be stained or painted to match your decor exactly.

Q:  Can Pole-Wrap be used to cover a jack post (adjustable basement support)?

A:  Yes, but if your jack post has a protruding pin you may want to consider replacing your existing jack post with the type that has a screw adjustment instead of a pin.  These are relatively inexpensive. Akron Products has a good product line and is available at Lowe’s.  Visit http://www.akronproducts.com/ for more information.

Q:  Can I use Pole-Wrap to cover square posts?

A:  Yes, most posts are standard 4x4 and we recommend our 16x96 inch size for single post projects.  Our 4x8 foot sheet is more economical for more than two posts.  Simply cut the length and width to fit and then install with construction adhesive.  Although we do not have a Cap & Base set available for square posts, your local lumber yard usually has a wide variety of crown and base moldings that can easily be cut with a miter saw to make the trim.

Q:  Can I use Pole-Wrap for outdoor applications?

A:  Pole-Wrap is a real wood product and can be used for exterior applications if it is primed and sealed appropriately.  Do so as you would any wood surface requiring weather protection.
